The Heart Shaped Bag

Hey handbag lovers! I think it has been one month since the last blog post so I am happy to bring you another #OnMondaysWeBagBlog!
Today I am sharing "The Heart Shaped Bag!" I made this bag for my daughter, as a Valentines Day gift and it is oh so cute!

I can say, this bag wasn't exactly what I pictured, but it still turned out great. To cut myself some slack, I didn't test this pattern, like I usually would. I was on a time crunch to get this done!
The Heart Shaped Bag is made with a combination of leather and vinyl; all left over scraps I had sitting in by scrap buckets. I dug through and found whatever colors I could that represented V-Day! The inside is lined with a bright red pig suede and the edges are covered with a bright purple binding (on the inside). Then I added an adjustable strap in hot pink with some bulky silver hardware! Last, to give this heart shaped back just a bit more detail, I stitched heart outlines on the front of the bag, itself.

Now, the stitching of the heart is where I say this bag was a little different than imagined. The front of the back was designed to have a 3-D effect, with memory foam underneath the purple vinyl piece to help give that effect. The memory foam I had was a little too thin (only 3mm thick) and needed about two additional layers of that to help with the 3-D detail. Usually I would use a 5mm thickness, with about 3 layers. However, I was out! Additionally, the pattern pieces I had cut out for each size heart, used to add the stitching, was really difficult stitching with the foam backing. This is where testing the pattern would have come in handy!
After all that being said, this bag still turned out super cute and my daughter loved it anyway!

Thank you for reading another #OnMondaysWeBagBlog! Until the next bag!
With love,
